Cargo Monitoring to Decrease Food Waste
Arviem AG‘s real-time cargo monitoring service will be supporting Nestlé Ecuador’s cargo shipments. The service will enable Nestlé Ecuador to verify the quality of its products while in-transit.
Thanks to the smart data and insights provided by Arviem’s internet-of-things technology-based sensing devices, Nestlé Ecuador will be able to gain visibility to the journey of its products and identify inefficiencies in the supply chain resulting in reduced inventory and food waste as well as increased food safety.
Today when food supply chains are becoming progressively more globalized, cover greater distances and involve more suppliers, exposure of food products to various risk factors grows exponentially. During the times of the global food shortage when the production and distribution of food products is becoming a critical issue of the 21st century, the need of food manufacturers for supply chain visibility solutions is increasing.
“As the consumption habits of today’s population are changing, food safety and traceability have become a major concern of food producers,” said Stefan Reidy the CEO of Arviem. “While in developing countries a large portion of the population has difficulties accessing food products, consumers in developed economies are getting more health conscious being worried about the content of their food, its origin, freshness and safety. Arviem’s real-time cargo monitoring helps Nestlé Ecuador and other food manufacturers to address these challenges.”
With Arviem’s intelligent sensing technology and its data analytics software food producers will be able to see the location of their products in real-time and also monitor the condition of these products. Improved supply chain visibility will enable manufacturers to optimize their supply chain processes and carry out smaller more targeted recalls leading to reduced food waste and inventory costs, prolonged shelf life of products and decreased amounts of write offs due to expired products.
