Sports apparel and footwear maker has decided to direct some of its shipments from China to the port of Baltimore on an all-water service offered by Evergreen Line.

The manufacturer customarily moved its goods from Asia through West Coast ports to its Baltimore distribution center. Company officials noted that costs, congestion, transit time and a desire to support their home town port were the key criteria in the change in supply chain design. Under Armour disclosed its supply chain changes at a recent meeting with Maryland business leaders and port officials.

Under the new arrangments, Under Armour will be moving select products produced in Asia via Evergreen Line over an all-water service to the Maryland port. Evergreen Line has been offering its all-water Asia/ U.S. East Coast full container service continuously to Baltimore for 40 years.

The first direct shipment to Baltimore was loaded in Shanghai, China, on the ITAL LIBERA and was offloaded last week.
