The port of Jacksonville, Florida, welcomed the first ship in Maersk Line’s new weekly service through the port’s Blount Island Marine Terminal yesterday.

With the addition of Maersk Line, nine of the world’s top 10 global container carriers now offer services through JAXPORT.

More than one million containers move annually through Jacksonville’s public and private marine terminals. Jacksonville boasts the widest shipping channel in the Southeast U.S., wide enough for two ships to pass at the same time.

JAXPORT terminals are served by three U.S. interstates highways—I-10, I-95 and I-75—and the city has 36 daily train departures via three railroads: CSX, Norfolk Southern, and Florida East Coast Railway. JAXPORT has invested $600 million in recent infrastructure investments in cranes, docks, on-dock rail, and a newly authorized project to deepen the federal shipping channel.

The port’s Foreign Trade Zone No. 64 spans more than 5,000 square miles within Northeast Florida.

Maersk Line’s TP10 is a new service between the U.S. East Coast and Northern China and South Korea. It offers direct service from Jacksonville to Xingang, Qingdao and Shanghai in China and Busan in South Korea. SSA Marine provides stevedoring services at Blount Island.
