Freight Brokers
Freight brokers generally place loads in trucks. Some specialize in in truckload or less-than-truckload (LCL) shipments. While many shippers, especially large ones, have contracts with one or more trucking companies, sometimes their freight is placed on the spot market and these are often handled by brokers. Many freight brokers also provide value-added services, such as enabling shippers to tack and trace their shipments online. Some also consult with shippers on the best method to ship and resolve any freight claims that may arise.
Freight brokers are federally regulated companies. Since 2012, federal law has required them to be licensed and bonded.
