Asian Ports
Asia is home to many of the world’s busiest seaports. The Port of Shanghai is the largest in the world in both cargo tonnage and activity, followed by the Ports of Singapore and Hong Kong.
The growth China’s exports over the last decade or two has fuled the development of several other ports in that country, including Yantian and Shekou-Chiwan, in southern China’s Pearl River Delta, across the border from Hong Kong. Yantian and Shekou-Chiwan have eroded Hong Kong’s market share thanks to their closer proximity to industrial areas in China. Other up and coming Chinese ports include Ningbo and Xiamen.
